After years of helping Singaporeans build wealth through real estate, I’ve noticed something troubling: we obsess over property details but neglect the one asset that makes it all possible—our health.
I’ve worked with clients who meticulously research every new launch, negotiate hard on resale HDBs, and strategically build million-dollar portfolios. Yet many of these same people haven’t had a proper health screening in years.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth: What’s the point of achieving a $5 million property portfolio if you’re not healthy enough to enjoy the rental income or see your children benefit from it?
The COE Paradox
Every car owner in Singapore understands preventative maintenance. We pay six figures for our vehicles, then dutifully follow every service interval—oil changes, brake checks, tire rotations.
Why? Because we know that ignoring a small issue today means a catastrophic breakdown tomorrow. A $500 service prevents a $10,000 repair.
Yet somehow, we treat our bodies—infinitely more valuable and irreplaceable—with far less care. We ignore warning signs, skip health screenings, and only see doctors when something hurts.
Your body doesn’t have a COE. You can’t trade it in for a new one.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
Singapore’s health statistics reveal what happens when we postpone maintenance:
Colorectal cancer is our most common cancer among men, second among women. The cruel irony? It’s highly treatable when caught early through regular screening, but often shows no symptoms until advanced stages.
Prostate cancer has become the top cancer affecting Singaporean men, with rising incidence rates. Yet a simple PSA test can detect it early when treatment is most effective.
Heart disease remains one of our top three killers. High blood pressure and cholesterol give us years of warning—warnings many ignore until they suffer a heart attack.
Early detection isn’t about avoiding death—that’s inevitable. It’s about avoiding premature death and ensuring the decades you’ve spent building wealth aren’t cut short.
Get Your Insurance Strategy Right
I’ve seen two extremes: clients who over-insure and drain their investment capital on premiums, and those who under-insure and risk losing everything during a health crisis.
Insurance should be strategic, not emotional:
- Cover your liabilities: Ensure mortgages and essential expenses are protected
- Maintain your family’s lifestyle: If you’re unable to work for two years, nothing should change for them
- Don’t over-buy: Insurance protects wealth; it doesn’t create it
Think of insurance as a safety net for your property portfolio, not the portfolio itself.
Beyond Transactions
My role goes beyond helping you buy and sell property. Real estate is a long-term game—10, 20, 30-year horizons. You need to be around for the entire journey.
That’s why I’ve built relationships with medical specialists across Singapore. Whether you need a comprehensive health screening or a specific consultation, I can connect you with trusted professionals who approach healthcare with the same diligence we apply to property investments.
The Bottom Line
Building a property portfolio is a marathon that requires you to be in good health for the long haul. Service your body as diligently as your Continental car. Get screened regularly. Protect what you’ve built with proper insurance.
Let’s grow your wealth—and make sure you’re healthy enough to enjoy every dollar of it.
